Hamburger Mary's / Toucan's

HI :

We went to Hamburger Mary's / Toucans tonight for dinner. When we
entered we were told that They are closing the restaurant on Friday.
No specific reason was given but the staff seems to feel that the
closing was due to decreased business resulting from the change in
name. They seemed to think that the old customers were under the
misapprehension that the GLBT friendly policy's were changed.

If anyone has any more information please let us know.

That's too bad. :(

Overall I've enjoyed the place.

Losing semiregular business and not getting new business can kill a
place. There's also a lot of competition in that vicinity, both GLBT
and mainstream.

I don't know if this is a nationwide thing with HMs, but earlier this
year HM Cincinnati changed ownership and name (it's now called the
Universal Grille). Even under a new name and mgmt., it is still quite
GLBT friendly and active in the GLBT community.

Interesting ! As the Hamburger Mary's in Fort Lauderdale ( Wilton
Manors)just recently changed it's name also......

i think it might just have been cost of life and increase in gas prices
etc. that gals like me just havnt gone out as much lately. too bad i
loved their new menus.

From what I was told by the employees they are closing their doors on
Friday. They are do not know if there is a buyer or what the plans are
for the premises.

the funny thing I thought was that they named it Toucan's after Toucan
Sam on the Froot Loops box.... that might not have been intentional but
it is sort of cute.....there is a toucan on the Froot Loops box and it
is a gay place in the Fruit Loop and they named it Toucan's lol

I personally don't understand why they changed the name, Hamburger
Mary's was a kind of cool name and they had the little drawings of a
character "Hamburger Mary" in all sorts of glitzy outfits in the menu
and they would bring the check out to you in a high heeled shoe...
little things like that make a restaurant interesting, a name like
"Toucan's" is just not interesting...

Hmm, I thought that "Toucan's" was a chain I wasn't familiar with.
There's a Toucan's in Palm Springs too.
